Massage Education

Do you already have a massage therapist education under your belt? If you are either a newly licensed massage therapy specialist who feels a bit lost as to how to start your career in the health care and wellness industry or you are already practicing your profession but wants to know how you can take advantage of your massage education to further advance your career and other opportunities, then this article is for you.

Massage therapy education, especially that obtained from accredited massage therapy schools, can be considered an edge or plus these days. With the field of massage constantly changing and expanding, quality and verifiable education can totally be an asset. Also, the number of massage students and masseuses is increasing every now and then, with more and more people trying to shift careers. One cannot blame these people from trying to eye possible massage therapy careers, though. A lot of licensed massage therapy specialists today can charge up to a hundred dollars per hour long session. Just imagine if that therapist can have at least five appointments per day! It truly can be a lucrative career.

Now if you are a new graduate, unless you want to start your own business (perhaps a spa, health club or wellness center), you can start looking for jobs. As a massage therapist, you are no longer limited to the confines of a health club. You actually have a lot of opportunities available --- you can check the local classifieds and check for openings in chiropractor clinics, health resorts, cruise ships, camps, salons, hotels (you can either be a full time employee or on an "on call" basis), nursing homes, elderly care homes or retirement homes, family and rescue centers, professional sports teams such as basketball or football clubs (this can be quite a steady and high paying job since the owners of these teams usually set aside good money for therapist salaries and retainer fees), gyms, holistic centers, schools, fitness facilities (where you can serve as an instructor or a supervisor), malls and downtown business centers (you may be needed for frequent chair or seated massages) and of course, there is the very popular and favorite opportunity in spas (especially high end ones where rich clients do not hesitate giving generous tips for a job well done).

Meanwhile, if you have been practicing your profession for quite a while now, do bear in mind that it will still be good for you to avail of continuing education. You may have a degree from a massage school but the teachings you learned before may not be enough these days. Remember, the massage industry is expanding and a lot more treatments are cropping up. Take advantage of your massage education not only by getting good jobs but by further honing your skills to constantly have that edge.
